SUMMARY:Poison Prevention Week
DESCRIPTION:National Poison Prevention Week raises awareness of poison prevention nationwide during the third full week of March every year. The week is an opportunity to highlight the dangers of poisonings for people and animals\, as well as promote community involvement in poisoning prevention. \n\n\n\nclick for full infographic\n\n\n\nOn September 26\, 1961\, the 87th United States Congress passed a joint resolution (Public Law 87-319) requesting that the President of the United States proclaim the third week of March National Poison Prevention Week. On February 7\, 1962\, President John F. Kennedy responded to this request and proclaimed the third week of March as National Poison Prevention Week. The first National Poison Prevention Week was therefore observed in March 1962. \n\n\n\n\nOfficial Website\n\n\n\nPoison Prevention

SUMMARY:National Animal Disaster Prep Day
DESCRIPTION:Preparation is important. \n\n\n\n\nIn 2010\, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designated the second Saturday in May as National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day. FEMA and other organizations want to help pet families create a disaster plan that includes their pets. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDisaster Prep Video\n\n\n\n\nDisaster Prep Checklists\n\n\n\n\nASPCA Disaster Prep\n\n\n\nTips from AKC\n\n\n\nHuman Society Prep List\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn times of crisis\, pets are often separated from their families and left to fend for themselves. During natural catastrophes such as tornadoes\, hurricanes\, floods\, earthquakes and wildfires\, as well as man-made disasters such as hazardous chemical spills and terrorism\, people are often told to leave their homes for a “short time\,” only to find that they cannot return for days or even weeks. As a result\, community animal shelters are overwhelmed with lost and separated cats and dogs in the wake of these events \n\n\n\n\nPet & Animal Emergency Planning Ready.gov\n\n\n\nEmergency Planning: ASPCA

SUMMARY:Check the Chip Day
DESCRIPTION:Microchips greatly increase the chances that pets will be reunited with their families if they are lost or stolen…but a microchip only works if its registration. \n\n\n\nTo remind pet owners to have their pets microchipped and to keep the registration information up-to-date\, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) joined together to create “Check the Chip Day.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore Info from AVMA\n\n\n\nAAHA’S UNIVERSAL PET MICROCHIP LOOKUP TOOL\n\n\n\nAVMA Infographic
